About Us

In May 2007, Vancouver’s current and prospective community gardeners held their own public forum. More than 50 garden reps citywide discussed how to enhance urban agriculture, including securing city support and working with the campaign to add 2,010 new plots by 2010. It was decided that an ongoing group representing community gardeners should be formed – to look at and speak on policy issues, to communicate and liaise with the City of Vancouver officials, to ensure that the gardeners' perspective is heard at City Hall.

The Urban Agriculture Advisory Group was created and has since been renamed Vancouver Urban Agriculture Network (VUAN)

Who are we? concerned citizens, gardeners and urban agriculturists, working on a grassroots level to advocate that local city garden policy represent the gardeners/agriculturists that would prefer to be gardening than dealing with policy makers.

What do we discuss/what do we do? we review proposals on community garden guidelines, composting, beekeeping, raising of backyard chickens, etc. We provide a support network for all community gardeners and urban food growers in the city, share info on resources and educational opportunities, support the creation of new community gardens, help with public outreach, and more.

Meetings/minutes? Meetings are once a month for one hour. Minutes are forwarded on a monthly basis to interested community garden reps within the city to inform them of our activities in case they would like to comment or have feedback.
